OH HEY GUYS!  Did you miss me?  I woke up this morning with the undeniable urge to get back to my “song of the day” postings because it’s totally UNDENIABLE that I have SO much music that I want to share!  It’s been a pretty crazy few months!!  Anyway, without going on too much of a ramble, here is one of my favorite songs by Iron & Wine…I hope it warms your heart on this chilly December morning.  The whole album is amazing…I feel like it takes on a modern Simon & Garfunkel kind of sound…very cool.  Make of it what you will.

Title: Hello Goodbye

Album: Only Human (2010)

I recently had the privelege of playing a show with this amazing young lady here in Kelowna, BC as a part of her “Rock for MS” tour.  Aimie is such a talented artist who has absolutely no reservations when it comes to showing her raw emotion on stage.  Every line that she writes will effect your heart in a different way.  I strongly suggest that you all check her website out (www.aimielaws.com) and BUY HER ALBUM because it is literally mind-blowing.  I’ve had it on repeat on my iPod for weeks now.  I believe the grand total that Aimie raised on her tour for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada was $3,645.57.  I was so honoured to be a part of this incredible cause with her.  Keep it coming Aimie!!  You’re unbelievable!

Comin’ Atchya!

Back from Hiatus!!

Hello you beautiful people of wordpress!!

The first thing I would like to do is extend my most sincere apologies for completely dropping off the face of the planet for the last two months.  I see that my last post was written a few days before I began my new job; I’ll let you put two and two together on that one.

It’s been a wild ride getting used to this new lifestyle that is Tourism and Hospitality…let me be the first to tell you that the industry I work in and the music industry are like oil and water.  It’s been really tough to get into the swing of everything and still make time for music.  In fact, the last live show I played was literally the day before I started this job…and I haven’t had time to do anything of the sort since then.

Things are finally starting to come together, however…there are many shows lined up for the month of June, and I also have an announcement for the summer; I am going to be playing a weekly slot every Thursday night at the Bonfire Restaurant in Westbank throughout ALL of July and August!  More details to come (as usual) but what I CAN tell you is that you will have the chance to see yours truly once a week on a beautiful lakefront patio in Westbank, and you can kick back, enjoy a cold beer and watch the sunset all at the same time!  TRY TO CONTAIN YOUR EXCITEMENT!!

Hopefully you had the chance to check out the new song I wrote a few weeks ago; “Fall into You”…I have a (VERY) rough recording up on soundcloud (http://www.soundcloud.com/ashley-dempster) for your previewing pleasure, and I’m taking the track to the studio in the next few weeks to get something legit happening fer’ yer’ ears to enjoy!  The track may or may not also have a guest drummer…you’ll have to wait and find out!

Anyway I just wanted to let you all know that the ball IS still rolling, things ARE still happening, I’m headed back to the studio in less than a week and you can expect a rockin’ summer from me!  Thank you for your continued support, if you’re reading this…you need to know that you mean more to me than you will EVER comprehend.

Song of the Day – April 1, 2011

Title: Reg Shag

Artist: Current Swell

Album: Protect your Own (2009)

Link to Listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHW6y7XB9w8

If you haven’t heard of Current Swell, you should be thoroughly ashamed.  They are an absolutely incredible roots-rock-reggae group from Vancouver Island…with tasty grooves infused with horn sections and steel guitar.  So epic.  Anyway, this song is from their third album, “Protect your Own”…I still remember in 2005 when they came to Kelowna and played their first show here at the Minstrel Cafe, and NOBODY STAYED!  I couldn’t believe it!  I was so appalled..so me and my friend Callie stayed the entire night, called my dad and a few other friends to come down, and they continued through their entire show just for us.  Pretty cool.  They came back two years later and were much more successful.  As far as I know they also played a show at The Habitat last year, which I was unable to attend.  Hopefully we can get the boys back to the Okanagan soon.  ANYWAY.  I’ll stop myself now, but enjoy this song, it’s upbeat and clever, and the trumpet section will probably make you smile.
